Adding Coupons To Your Promo

How It Works

There are various ways of incorporating coupons into your next online promotion. First, coupons can be a great “thanks for playing” incentive – you can send an email to everyone who enters with a percentage off coupon. Coupons can also be prizes, but be careful here, they need to have a specific Approximate Retail Value (ARV) to be valid as a “prize”. This is often done using Gift Cards with a specific dollar value. In several promotions, we have created a secondary “Offer Game” after the instant win game.

For example, you play a match game to win cool prizes, then if you lose, you get to spin the Offer Wheel, where you might win something like $50 off your next purchase of $150 or more. Coupons can also be One Time Use (OTU) offers tracked at the Point of Sale (POS). If the customer’s POS system can export discount codes, RSP can even generate barcodes on the fly and send emails that can be scanned at the register.

What It Solves

Here are a few of the benefits to adding this module to your promotion:

1. Leverage Your Promotion – Of course, one primary reason for an online giveaway is to collect emails for remarketing. Don’t let that be the end of it. You’ve done all this work, try to get more activity in your store – online or off.
2. Easing the Blow – Coupons are a terrific way to ease the blow of losing. Ok, you didn’t win that trip to Tahiti, but at least you got 25% off in the online store! And your customer definitely wins in this scenario.
3. Data – “Hey, you didn’t win this time, but we sent you a 5% off coupon just for playing”.  This kind of additional offer can drive traffic to your website or store.

Setting Expectations

Your client paid some good money to add an online Promotional Giveaway as part of their splashy, new campaign. Setting clear and reasonable expectations with the client will help you get credit when things go well and will provide added context when it comes time to measure your results.

The Instant Win Game

Typically, the Instant Win game is paired with a Grand Prize Drawing, although that is not required.  The entrant enters their vitals, email, first, last, etc., and then they have a page with a wheel, match cards or a slot machine.  They then spin the wheel, flip the cards, or spin the reels and they win or lose.

Pick Your Prize

In any promotion with a drawing, RSP’s engine can integrate a “Pick Your Prize” module. Before the entrant fills out their entry form, they are asked to choose which prize they would like to win in the drawing at the end of the promotion.
